Despite roaming the land for millions of years, elephants are facing extinction. Some die from poaching, others from habitat loss. The population of African elephants has declined to 450 thousand, meaning that only 10% is left compared to that of 100 years ago. Still, over 30 thousand elephants die of poaching every year. Only through actively stopping poaching and banning ivory from the market can elephants be freed from their extinction crisis.
