In 2013, the National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS) initiated activities related to science images. Exhibition technologies, multimedia programs, and popular science educational activities have provided channels for public expression. Through the creation of esthetic images, participants increase their awareness of science, while observers are guided through a cross-disciplinary scientific learning experience that encourages logical thinking and is interesting, enjoyable, imaginative, and moving. In addition, such images inspire viewers to explore their surroundings while cultivating scientific literacy and cultural adaptability. As people face changes and develop new ways of dealing with the world, they create new possibilities.

The 6th Scientific Photography Competition was organized by the Beijing Museum of Natural History. There were 456 entries, with 191 from Taiwan and 265 from China. Thirty-nine of these entries received awards. Among them, 28 were from Taiwan (including 2 first prizes, 3 exploring nature prizes, 5 discovering science prizes, 1 most moving prize, 1 most artistic prize, and 1 best visual image prize). Eleven were from China (including 1 first prize, 2 special youth prizes, 2 exploring nature prizes, 1 best astrophotography prize, 1 media prize, and 1 best observation prize). The 7th Amazing New Visions: Science Images Competition was organized by NMNS. Among the 546 entries, 538 were from Taiwan and 8 were from outside Taiwan. Of the 62 award-winning works, 61 were from Taiwan (including 3 merit awards and 2 Quanta Culture and Education Foundation Special Youth awards) and 1 was from Singapore.

The Self-Revelation through Camera World Special Exhibition includes award-winning images from the 6th and 7th science images competitions. Most are of insects and spiders (13 + 16). The remaining are in the following categories: underwater and marine life (5+18), astronomy and meteorology (6+12), animal puzzles (6+7), physics and chemistry (6+1), plants and fungi (2+5), and microscopic world (1+3).

Since the beginning, the curatorial team has adhered to the concepts of "green exhibition", such as incorporating scrap iron animal sculptures by Belgian artist Gilles Falisse and cross-shaped displays made from previously used materials, which have been endowed with new design concepts and interpretations. It is hoped that this exhibition will encourage visitors to observe and record their surroundings and enrich their lives through creativity and the crossing of boundaries between human and non-human and new and old.
