多采多姿的海洋生物，是許多潛水客著迷的地方！像香菇般的虎耳珊瑚，被覆的藍色珠子其實是觸手，身上發出螢光為海底增添不少色彩。炙熱的太陽光會讓皮膚曬傷，而珊瑚也可能受傷害；利用體內螢光蛋白質來吸收高能量的光，再以低能量的螢光釋放出來，這就是珊瑚的防禦機制。左圖以藍光刺激珊瑚，其體色較深，右圖以藍光加上黃光刺激珊瑚，體色變得較淺些。

Divers are forever mesmerized by the multi colored sea life the ocean has to offer; such as the mushroom like Metarhodactis sp coral. The blue beads covering the body are actually its tentacles and the luminescence emitted from its body adds to the assortments of colors under the sea. Intense sunlight can damage our skin and the same applies to coral. So as a defense mechanism, it uses the florescent protein within its body to absorb the high-energy sunlight, then releasing it as low-energy luminescence. The photograph on the left shows a darker shade of color after stimulation from blue ray, while the right photograph with addition of yellow rays, creates a lighter shade of body color.
