默氏笠海膽是一種極度特化的正型海膽，密覆體殼反口面的棘刺，變形成極短的鉚釘狀，最外圍一圈則變為扁平的長片狀，外形像一頂戰場上的鋼盔；搭配口面吸盤發達的管足後，又像個超級大吸盤。這樣的配備，讓牠們能夠在巨浪衝擊的光滑礁石表面上棲息、生存，沒有其他對手競爭

A Colobocentratus mertensi urchin is a common urchin that has gone through extreme specialization. Its densely covered spikes on its abactinal surface has transformed into little rivets. The outer circle lines with long flat pieces. The entire shape resembles a steel helmet from battlefields. Together with ambulacra, it takes on the form of a giant suction pad. This feature allows them to settle and survive on slippery reefs constantly under attack by giant waves. They are free of competitors.
