( The True Face of the Shark’s Dermal Denticles)

鯊魚皮經常被加工製成皮鞋、皮包、刀鞘、刀柄等用具，但那僅限於盾鱗平滑緊密的種類。本作品中的臺灣喉鬚鯊的皮並不合適。單一的喉鬚鯊盾鱗如一艘破浪的小飛艇，成片的盾鱗則如難以攻克的鋸齒防禦工事。臺灣喉鬚鯊身形細長，是臺灣西南部深海底棲常見的中、小型鯊魚，但僅出現於東港附近海域，可能為臺灣特有種。

Sharkskin is usually used to make leather shoes, wallets, knife handles, sheaths and other tools of kinds. However this is restricted to species with scales that are smooth and tight in texture. The Taiwan saddled carpet shark’s (Cirrhoscyllium formosanum) skin is not suitable for manufacturing. One single scale resembles a jet boat, and the cluster of scales is like an unbeatable jagged defense mechanism. This long and slender (average) sized shark usually inhabits the benthos region of Taiwan’s South Western waters. However as this one was found near the maritime boundary of Dongang, this is possibly an endemic species to Taiwan.
