( True Nature of the Forest in the Ocean)

深海原軟珊瑚是構成臺灣附近海域深海動物森林的一個主要類群。日本有蓋原軟珊瑚是其中具有金色中軸骨幹的一個種類，遠看有如橙黃色的小樹，串珠般的珊瑚蟲整齊地圍繞中軸排列，電子顯微鏡下，現出構造精細的骨片立體拼圖。

Deep-sea alcyonacean coral make up most of the coral forests around Taiwan’s maritime boundary. The Calyptrophora japonica, a coral found in Japan resembling an orange colored tree from a distance, is a kind of coral that contains golden axial vertebrae. Under the microscopic lens, we can see strings of bead-like polyps neatly wrapping around the axle creating an intricate 3D sclerite puzzle.
