.蘇俊育-夢幻紫螺 ( Dreamy Purple Sea Snail)

不同於大家所認識的螺貝類，紫螺捨棄了底棲的生活方式，分泌透明的黏液泡形成浮囊，以腹足攀附其上漂在海面，隨著海流四處移動終其一生。紫螺食性專一，以同樣漂浮於海面的水母為食，進食時會從口中伸出特殊的齒舌刮食。生殖時，母螺會將一包包粉紅色的卵產在浮囊下，小紫螺免於四散。由於四處漂浮，被浪打上岸的個體通常已經死亡，本次得幸記錄到活體的影像與行為

Whatset the Purple snails (Janthina janthina) apart from the Gastropoda we’re familiar with is that they are not benthos. They discharge bubble like mucus to create an air chamber, which acts as a floating device. Allowing them to float aimlessly in the ocean for the rest of their existence. They mainly dine on the equal ocean floating jellyfish and use unique radulas that are extended from their mouths to consume food.  The female snails will lay their pinkish eggs under the air chamber to avoid them from floating away. The ones that are washed ashore are generally dead already. I was fortunate to be able to capture the images and the behavioral patterns of a living specimen.
