仙女蝦是群棲暫時性淡水域的甲殼類動物。面對難以預料的雨水期，純水生的牠們得趕在池水消失前交配、產下休眠卵，等待下一次生長的機會到來。由於時間寶貴，可交配的雌性又稀少，雄性極度渴望配偶，積極逡巡，主動探查身旁的個體；但是，視覺或觸覺等感官卻不甚靈光，焉能辨牠是雌雄，雄性熱烈追求的對象往往是其他雄性，甚至還會試圖交配呢！然而，這種看似不合理的行為，卻被演化所保留著。

Thefairy shrimp (Branchinella thailandensis) is a roosting crustacean that temporarily locates itself in fresh water zonation. Facing the unpredictable rainy seasons, the fresh water shrimps must rush to the pond water to mate before the pond disappears and lays dormant eggs for future growth. As time is limited and female hard to find, the male must proactively scope around their surroundings. But as their vision and senses are weak, it is hard for them to differentiate between male and female with most of the time spent flirting with other male and even attempting to mate with them. Although their behavior seems illogical, it has remained throughout their evolutionary process.
