白鐮紋蛺蝶（Polygonia c-aureum asakurai）的卵，從原本的翠綠轉為黑色，意味孵化時刻即將來臨。卵殼開始有了動靜，幼蟲在頂端處咬出一個洞，並沿著洞的邊緣持續啃咬，直到洞口擴大足以將身軀抽出。接著，幼蟲探出頭、爬出殼，開始新生命的冒險。白鐮紋蛺蝶為臺灣特有亞種，分布於中高海拔地區，產卵於阿里山榆之葉緣，卵直徑約0.8公釐。幼蟲孵化後通常不會將卵殼啃食殆盡，因而葉子表面留有許多如玻璃杯般的空卵殼。

Whenthe eggs of the Polygonia c-aureum asakurai butterfly change from emerald to black, it means they are ready to hatch. The eggs starts to show signs of movement, larva bites a hole on the tip of the shell, then chews around the hole until it is large enough for it to squeeze through. Next the larva sticks its head out, crawls out of the shell and begins its adventure. The Polygonia c-aureum asakurai is an endemic species found in Taiwan. They inhabit in the mid to high altitude areas and lay their eggs in the shrublands of Ali Mountains with each egg measuring 0.8mm. When the larvae hatch, they don’t consume their eggshells, leaving many empty glass like eggshells on the surfaces of leaves.
