(Kalliaminachus boisduval Butterfly’s Moveable Compound Eyes)
Writtenrecords indicate that the butterfly’s compound eyes are made up of 6-7 thousand mini ocellus. They have wide viewing angles but have no eye movements. However from my observation, I found out that the compound eyes of the Kalliaminachus boisduval butterfly do move. The first photograph shows that the black dot (not pupil) in the middle of the eyeball is centered. The second photograph shows that, when the camera angle changed, the black dot also followed the 45 degrees angle change. For the third photograph, this was taken right in front of it and the dot moved forward to stare at me. But the right eyeball didn’t move as my lens was focused on its left eye. Therefore only the left eye moved with me. Several shootings of the Kalliaminachus boisduval reach the same conclusion. Each butterfly not only has different patterns on its wings but also have different creases on its eyeballs. It is similar to those of human fingerprints. I’m hoping that the study of anatomy will further verify my claims.
