( Moon Blocks: Divine Answer, Laughing Answer)

花蓮鯉魚潭湖積物內所萃取的矽藻化石，其年代約2千年前。左圖為橋灣藻屬矽藻，右圖為內絲藻屬矽藻。在湖泊採取湖積物岩芯的心情，就像在博杯。岩芯在採上來前，甚至在進行分析前，永遠不知道裡面會不會有完好的微化石，也不知道是否保存古環境紀錄？

Fossilized diatom extracted from Hualien’s Li Yu Lake dates back to two thousand years ago. The photograph to the left is a Cymbellaceae diatom while the one to the right is an Encyonema diatom. Extracting the sediments from the lake is comparable to the tossing of the moon blocks. Before the sediments are extracted and even analyzed, there is forever an uncertainty of whether the sediment contains fully intact microfossils or if it preserves the implication of palaeoenvironment.
