( Under the Winter Night Skies-light Pillars)
Alight pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon. It is created by the reflection of light from ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. If ice crystals are present in the atmosphere, then there is a high chance for them to reflect sunlight that is near or below the horizon back to the ground, to form pillars. But in the cold winter nights of countries far north, light pillars are instead formed when the ice crystals reflect the city lights back to the ground. Such phenomenon will only occur when the temperature is low, with plenty amounts of ice crystals in the air and no chance of snowing. It is highly unpredictable. As most of the cities are filled with an assortment of lights, the pale moonlight will give way to the colorful light pillars.
